Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is beef tallow?
A: Beef tallow is rendered beef fat that has been purified for cooking. It’s a traditional cooking fat prized for its rich flavor and high smoke point, making it excellent for searing, frying, and sautéing.
Q: What is hanging weight?
A: Hanging weight is the weight of the animal after it has been harvested and prepared for aging, but before it is cut into individual steaks, roasts, and ground beef.
Q: Does the price include processing?
A: Yes, processing is included in the price.
Q: How much freezer space will I need?
A: Plan for about 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 30–35 pounds of packaged beef. We recommend using a chest or upright freezer to keep your beef in excellent condition. As a general guide:
Quarter beef: 4–5 cubic feet
Half beef: 8–10 cubic feet
Whole beef: 16–20 cubic feet
Q: How long will the meat last in the freezer?
A: Our beef is vacuum-sealed for maximum freshness. When properly stored in a freezer, it can last up to 18 months without losing quality. Ground beef is best enjoyed within one year, while steaks and roasts can maintain top quality even longer.
Q: When will my beef share be ready?
A: We’ll provide an estimated timeline when you reserve your beef share. Typically, it takes about three weeks from processing to pickup.
